[citation][nom]iam2thecrowe[/nom]I think rather than rehashing the old, you should make something that is not a doom clone. Something less linear, more open, more interesting. Give us something new. I have not been happy with a quake/doom game since quake III Arena.[/citation]
Here's what I want: System Shock 1 and System Shock 2 rvamped into a contemprary engine. And a new System Shock 3. Granted, none of this is id IP, but how about something that engrossing, id?

Used to do that in an engineering firm where I worked. A bunch of Pentium 90/100 systems with integrated graphics and no sound cards. Had a lot of fun.

Since the source code for Quake 1 was released, there have been a lot of enhancements. LordHavoc's DarkPlaces is one of the best.

Screaming "I can definitely make this my bitch!"

I love Quake 1, definitely in my top 3 FPS games of all time, possibly in the #1 position. Sure, Doom might have been first (Wolfenstein?), but Quake brought such a level of innovation to the scene that it was the first true FPS similar to what we play today. Three dimensional support (jumping, mouselook, etc), awesome multiplayer (better than the new Modern Warfare games), Team Fortress, Quake Done Quick, etc. It was the first game that I can recall that had a HUGE community developing maps and mods. To me, Half Life is the true successor to Quake 1 and no game has had more community development and support than those 2 games.

You could reboot the original quake and do great things. Just don't let Carmack get opinionated and use technology thats old and looks like crap. Just make a good looking game thats more involved. Heck weapon proficiency slots to make your fav weapon more effective or something. The dark gothic place was used by someone or something at one point.. just go with it.

I agree with you wholehardtedly. I played both mods extensively in 96 to 02. Do you remember Navy Seals for Quake? That was the original AQ2 and was a great mod.

I'd forgotten that - Port 666!

I am excited to see what they'll come up with. Quake III Arena was the best FPS multiplayer game of all time without any doubt. So I have all the faith in the world that ID can do it again. Sorry kids, HalfLife/CounterStrike is not even close.

I remember rocking QW on my 486 tryna pull 20FPS on software graphics haha.
Played it for years and still do load it up every now and then.
Easily one of the best, and still is, and fastest multiplayer gameplay in terms of an FPS.
The ability to increase game speed with bunny hopping, splash damages, gren and rl jumps made Quake one of the best games and one that most people will NEVER forget.
If iD can somehow harness the energy, intensity and fundamental gameplay for a new Quake, we can be hopefull to see a new era where Quake will be reborn it can certainly revamp PC gaming to its former glory.
No more CoD, MW, Medal of Honor type crouch-hide-and-shoot, tactical gameplay!
Get to the roots of balls-to-the-wall, fast paced, skilled gaming that once held the title of 'king of all FPS'.
This is one title that I hope they do the best job possible of bringing back PC gaming.

Don't you think you're talking about completely different FPS types? One is realistic based, one some-what, and the other fantasy based.

Loved all three, but to call Counter-Strike or Half-Life players kids is thought to possibly reflect on the inability of the someone who doesn't do too well at these types of FPS games? *Note Quake 3 is Muccchhhh faster paced than the other two*
