Ide hard drive wont work

Ok, so I had a Ide hard drive I was using for my ps2. Well, I had connected it to my computer via ide to usb and a power cable from inside my pc and tried to use it. But when I tried to, it didn't show up. I tired seeing if I could get it to work in computer management, but it just says disk 1 and something about it needing to be initialized. I tried, but it says device not ready. Please tell me how I can fix it, it is the only one I have except for another one and it worked when I connected it. But its all wrong for my ps2.

in computer management right click on where it says "offline" Click "online".

Use diskpart to issue a "clean" command to the drive, then try to initialize it through disk management.

WARNING: Be sure to select the correct drive before issuing the clean command. It will destroy all data on the drive.

The steps should be the same under XP also.
