IDE to SATA converter problem

So recently I bought this adapter and I still can't get it to work. All the connections are fine. I connected both the adapter and the HDD to molex connectors. The interesting thing is, when I connect the adapter to the left side of the IDE connector of the HDD my adapter's red LED lights up but my HDD doesn't seem to work. And when I connect the adapter to little bit righter in the IDE slot and leave my last 2 pins disconnected, my hard disk works but not my adapter. It's a bit tricky for me, I hope you guys understand my issue and thanks in advance

Whatever may be the problem don't use IDE to SATA converter/adapter or vise versa. Its too dangerous for HDD's. I repeat don't use it.

Theres something wrong. there should be no room to move the connector left or right, the pins need toline up 1 to 1 and you may have damaged your motherbd or hdd by mis-aligning the connector.

Are you connecting to a 40-pin IDE interface (3.5" HDD) or a 44-pin interface (2.5" HDD)? The latter supplies +5V power to the end pins.

Can you show us photos of your setup?
