Question Idea of sell price for system/advice?

Hello all!

I have a system I'm either looking to sell or upgrade, and both options I'm hoping will set me back no more than $3000.

Im wondering if the system below is likely to be priced at somewhere around $1500, and if so, what im better off doing;

1. Selling current system and buying a new one with RTX3080 as its the only way I can seemingly get one atm, or

2. Keeping current system but purchasing an RTX3090 and upgrading other parts if necessary (this is where I need help as im not sure what I would need to upgrade alongside it and it may be a pricier option).

Both end goals are just to have a more capable, 4k ready 60fps rig to handle whatever I throw at if for the foreseeable future.

Current system:
GPU - AMD Radeon 5700XT
CPU - AMD Ryzen R5 3600X, 6C 12T
PSU- 700W Thermaltake
RAM - 16GB
Any help is MASSIVELY appreciated!!

What is your motherboard? Can it support Ryzen 5000 series CPU's? If yes than you can upgrade to Zen 3 when you find one to buy.

If you want to upgrade to a RTX 3090 you will have to get a new PSU and a decent one.

You cannot sell that system for 1500 that's for sure. You can get a system like that for 1200USD new.

Mobo is an ASUS TUF B450-PLUS GAMING AM4 ATX.

Do you happen to know what PSU wattage i should aim for for both 3080 & 3090?

Probably looking at getting closer to $1000 for your current components. Why buy that used when I can get that, new for around $1500.

Thats really helpful thank you so much!

You can keep that system and change the PSU to a decent model of 750 Watts if you're using the RTX 3080 and 850 Watts if you're using the RTX 3090. Change the CPU to a Ryzen 5000 series when you can and update the BIOS to the latest version for the Zen 3 support before installing the new CPU.

Or

You can sell that system which is around 1200 USD new so you would have to sell it lower than that because it's used and you buy a new system on a B550/X570 + Zen 3 CPU.

You have a 3000 dollars budget? You can easily sell this system and buy a new one with everything new if you wanted. And that's 3000 dollars with a RTX 3090 without you selling your current system so if you sell it your new system will cost ~2000 with a RTX 3090. Not bad.

Now the issue is finding a Zen 3 and a RTX 3080/3090 at decent prices and in stock.

Upgrade or new system? :)

4k gaming is primarily dependent on the graphics card, not so much the processor.

Look to a 3080 whenever you can buy one.
You might look at the 6800xt which seems comparable.
3090 seems like overkill, and they are even more scarce and overpriced.

As an interim, for better performance buy a used RTX2080ti
If you buy new, buy an EVGA card and plan to use their free 90 day upgrade plan. (3080 may not be available in that window)

On graphics, Patience seems to be in order.

For an idea of the value of your parts, find the parts in used condition on ebay.
Then filter on completed auctions.
In green, you will see what they actually go for.
Be prepared to be disappointed.
