Hi,

The problem:
My son is using my old system. We game - lately ARK. It runs - so so - at very low settings on this system. Without buying a new system I am thinking about what I can add to it to make it perform better. One thing is adding RAM - it only has 4gb but I seem to recall it having problems with 8gb (maybe a bad slot on the motherboard). The other thing is to get a better gpu. Any thoughts on this would much appreciated.

  • ■ Core Duo E8400 3GHz
    ■ EVGA nForce 750i SLI (122-YW-E173-TR) Motherboard
    ■ 4GB DDR PC2-6400 (according to the crucial scan)
    ■ EVGA GeForce GT 640
    ■ Windows 7 64bit OS

Update: I also am wondering if I can get a better processor to run on this board. I know they had the Core 2 Quad and the Core 2 Extreme. Any thoughts on that as well?

Solution
Honestly, if I were you I would get 8GB memory and a GTX 750 ti, that shouldnt cost too much and almost double your gaming performance in most games.

Otherwise if you can save up for some new parts later, get the gtx 750 ti now and it should be compatible with a new motherboard, cpu and ram. I recommend the gtx 750ti because I have seen it play ARK with acceptable settings and good frame rates, but that was on a newer i3. Also I saw one on newegg for $80 after rebate
I want you to look at my signature and see my specs. i can run ark also so so on direct x 10 because this game is code like SHIT mate. there is nothing to do other than getting 64gb of ram and like 2 titan x and an i7 6920x or what ever to run this game well. but for you i would say get some more ram although if its ddr2 it might be time for a new computer. just my thoughts

Cool. Yeah it makes sense. Do you think it worth getting the FTW version of it?
