Idle memory usage jumped to 86%? (6.7 out of 7.9 Gb)

I built my first PC not long ago with 8 Gb of Ram and idle memory useage hovered around 20%. I have a 240Gb SSD and After installing games on Steam and Origin, my hard drive ran out of space, so I transferred a bunch of game memory to an external 1tb hard drive. My CPU useage is only 3% but my Ram memory usage skyrocketed from 20% to 86% on idle and I'm not sure why, is it due to the games? I'm running windows 8.1 64-bit. On task-manager chrome takes the most memory. Is there anything you recommend to get the memory back down or something that could be causing this?

Check your non paged pool, I had the exact same issue, what OS are you on?

under the memory tab of your task manager, check at the bottom for Non paged pool size, if this is high then i'll look up the tutorial i found for you

This is very high, over 5 Gb of non-paged pool memory
