IE 11 compatibility w/ Windows10

I am trying to install IE11 while running Win 10;
Apparently MS doesn't like this idea.
Has anyone had experience with install and running IE11 in this environment??

I imagine that as W10 is a 'clean slate' for M$, they won't allow it to be corrupted with an old version of IE.

What does 11 do that Edge / Chrome / Firefox / Opera won't?

Am attempting to run on a platform that uses java applets; publisher doesn't recommend Edge; they recommend Firefox. They suggest
IE11 and I just wanted to give it a try. I can run it on Firefox (with some applet issues). Thanks for your insight.
