IE 5.5 Hanging

Has anyone discovered a fix for IE5.5 freezing? My system is an AMD TBird 800 on an ASUS A7V (BIOS 1004D) VIA 4-in-1 Drivers installed, ASUS V7700 GeForce2 GTS 32MB, Detonator 3 drivers, running 98SE. All the updates, fixes, you name it... Anyone found something that works? Sometimes it crashes after 1 minute, other times it goes for more than an hour... Very inconsistent. Very frequent shutdown/restart BSOD's as well. Any help or tips would rock. Thanks.

I would stick with IE 5 if you have the choice, I've heard nothing but headaches regarding 5.5.

I'm using IE5.5 and have no problems whatsoever using it. Maybe because I'm running on Win2000 😎 . A trip to WidowsUpdate might help you. With the new patch for IE you could get an error reporting tool too, helping MS to develop better products.

Hey,

I've had some problems with the early versions with IE5.5. Now its fine. I'm using WinME. Hmmmmm try to go down to version 5, or see if you can obtain a slightly different version of IE5.5 ex: a version modified for an ISP. I'll check out the help boards at Microsoft.

I have the problem with it freezing under win98. I just have to shut down the IE precess to recover though, not restart. I'm downloading the Service Pack now. Hope it fixes it.

I occassionaly had the same problem under 98 SE , but after downloading SP1 for IE 5.5, I've been fine.
