Jakubowskit,

That was one suggestion. But as the thread proceeded, you’ll see that it wasted my time, because I need to use my cell phone when sending from my Outlook Express account, even to myself.

The problem is that embedded photos can’t be saved. When they’re attached photos, (and I have set my e-mail to display them in line, so it’s sometimes hard to tell they’re attached, aside from the little paper clip symbol,) they can be saved just fine.

One suggestion makes it very simple, though. COPY the pics, and paste them into a photo manipulator program. Even the free “Paint” program works. Then they’re handled like normal pics for use wherever.

It’s pretty obvious that the problem is due to MS’ having us upgrade to IE7. MS seems to be doling out various excuses, and giving some folks hope that they will correct their problem. They need to coordinate their position.

I’m going to assume, (yeah, I know that’s bad,) that MS will eventually succumb to the overwhelming number of complaints. It will either fix the problem, or they will simply drop OE as a pre-packaged option.

Either way, it’s still MS’ fault, and if they have a smidgeon of ethics, they will fix it and send out patches to everyone.

Jakubowskit...
Thanks for the reminder. I knew that, but it's such a pain. My server doesn't let me email back to myself, so what I have to do is, after I click send, then I go into my SENT file, and save the photo that way, too. It works just the same. :)

Gyro...
Thanks, I certainly will (enjoy the drive). And you enjoy cameral hunting (when you get around to it). I'm kind of partial to SONY, and plan to stay with them (mostly because I have so much SONY stuff and most of it can be used by them all, ie: the mem sticks).

LOL about MS reading our posts and giving us a fix so we'll end the thread.

Have a great day! We still have snow on the ground and I love it! 😀

Hi Gyro...
Well, the new Vista is out...you gonna try it??? When we got new pcs recently, for the kids, a cert for trial of Vista came with. NOT ME! I'll stop while I'm still (a little) ahead. :) And they still don't have a fix-it for the probs IE7 is causing all over the place. The home version of Vista is supposed to be nothing more than IE7 in a newer pkg, and for $200 to upgrade! ugh.
I love the HD I got. Holds everything! So I just D/L to it and U/L what I need at the time, leaving my pc clean. So cool! Thanks for telling me.

Genie,

I was contemplating trying Vista. But I think I’ll wait a bit. Let them hit it with SP1 or SP2, first.

Looking back on past upgrades, I wonder what of my present stuff will no longer be compatible with that OS….

If you hear of anyone trying the “Upgrade” version, let me know if it pans out. When I wanted to go from 95 to 98, I was told not to buy the “Upgrade,” but to get the full version. More money, of course, but it was said to be better.

And the cost is prohibitive, as well. But I’m thinking it may be time for me to build a new PC. Maybe I can get a deal on the OEM version, like I did with this XP Pro.

Time will tell.

Glad you are getting full use of the new HD!

:)

I don't know...They've kind of scared me off a bit after the troubles with IE7. The switch from 95 to 98 wasn't that big a deal, but going to XP seemed to make everyone nervous. I was getting a new pc and it came with it at that time, so I didn't have much choice. This time, the new pcs came with a certificate to get a trial of Vista, but from what I read on C-NET, it'll be a long while before I actually consider the options. I really liked XP once I got into it. (I was once a DOS fan, way back, and had a hard time changing over from that.) Yes, if I hear anything, I'll let you know. I just got an ad, today, from HP about the new HPs having Vista, inc a link to Windows for more info.

Genie,

Well, I’m a bit leery of jumping into something new, right off, too. If you do get Vista, let me know how it works out.

What really irks me is what I just learned at the Verizon store. I’ve been using my old Samsung cell phone with Verizon’s Mobile Office kit that hives me software and a cable to use the phone as a modem. My wife and I were considering upgrading the phones, (no particular reason,) and I asked if I could get a cable to use Mobile Office with the new phone. They said they don’t use the phones as modems, anymore. They want to sell Broadband.

Sheesh! I don’t have a place to connect the air card to this desktop, and my wife wants to use the Internet on her laptop a lot of he time while I’m on line. I think there’s a way to get an air card or whatever connected to this desktop PC, but I’m not sure if we’d then have to buy two cards, (a bunch o’ money,) and two accounts, (way mo’ money,) so that we could both be on line when there’s no wi-fi around.

Dang. I have mandatory change.

Eventually, XP will stop being supported, so I’m sure I’ll have to move to Vista.

Meanwhile, though, I’m keeping my old Samsung cell phone, and will wait until Verizon’s sites no longer support it being used as a modem.

huh, I didn't know that. You could try a search of CNET or ask a GEEK at Best Buy about your problem and their recommendation. I find them extremely helpful. I know that Verizon is into broadband now, but there must be a way to connect your pc. Good luck. LMK what you find out. It may be something I might want to do in the future. There are a lot of "hot spots" on the road these days and when we'd got thru them, I'd suddenly get "the sound" and knew I was connected. :)
No, I don't plan to switch to Vista...UNLESS it becomes necessary (in some future WAY DOWN THE ROAD). I don't know anyone who is going to, either. I do have friends at our local Best Buy, tho, so I may ask them about it. They seemed to be excited about it when we bought the past pc, but I just figured that was "store-hype".

Genie,

Well, I recall, on a forum for the folks who own the same kind of fifth-wheel we do, that there was chatter about hooking up an air card to a router in some way. I’m going to dig that up, after talking more to the Verizon dude. Or, as you said, the guys at Best Buy…Since they also sell routers.

I know that Verizon Broadband is just about everywhere we go, so if I have to dump my old dial-up ISP, and move to my Yahoo or Google mail accounts, so be it. I can mail from them as long as I have web access, and don’t need dial-up, like my old Alaskan ISP.

Outlook Express; ""The system cannot find the file specified" ; "Cannot find the C:\WINDOWS\system32\mshtml.hlp file"

It is now 3 years later. And the geniuses at Microsoft still didn't fix this bug.

Actually it is a bug on top of a bug. First, when you right click on a picture and try to save it, Outlook Express email can't find it in it's own damn cache. Then it offers to click "help" . But clicking help tries to invoke a non existent Microsoft file.

Could somebody in Redmond explain to them words like "stupid" and "frustration" and "three years"!!!!

ps. there are many time wasting work around, like copy/paste to a paint program, forward the email to yourself, etc...
The hours wasted by MS users on problems like this one could cause a depression...
