Its stuff like this that makes me glad im still using IE6 on my main PC.

And im still convinced some oddball IE7 security hole is why I had to reload my server over the weekend.

Those numbers aren't comparable. One is from Sunday (when most people are using computers from at home where they have much more liberty to use whatever software they like) and one is from Monday (when most people are at work where they have to deal with company-approved installations).

I had downloaded the IE8 beta in November, reverted back to IE7 due to compatability problems, then reinstalled the IE8 Release last week. No problems in compatability mode. I had also read the web page timing charts that MS posted; interestingingly enough, I couldn't personally differentiate between the number of nanometers of eyeblink of each of the browers tested. Of course, I'm old and slow compared to the Y-genners, or is it now the P-genners? Oh, well, they still accuse me of lying about scripting *.SYS and *.BAT files in the old days too.

That's what happens when you suddenly decide to go by the standards: pages that were modified to work with ie7 get screwed. Nice going MS. What i hate most about IE8 is the Yahoo Messenger ad : "Try IE8 ...especially optimized for Yahoo" :) That's pure bs

I was unable to view IMDB with IE8! That is a major site with millions of hits per day! Basically, the only thing I liked about IE8 is the ability to highlight stuff and have the easy-jump feature allow me to jump to a google map etc. Also the rendering engine on IE8 is REALLY slow!!!

Whelp, the problem is that IE has been broken for so long many websites render broken code just for IE. Basically on some sites the jscript or PHP script detects IE and so it renders old out of whack code that worked for IE and renders more standard code for everyone else. As for that Microsoft Publisher it's always been crap when it comes to making web pages 😀.

IE8 gave me so much crap whenever I used it as a beta and while I was testing Windows 7, I'm afraid to touch it with a ten foot pole! I already use IE7 as my backup to Firefox, and I want it to be a competent backup, so I won't be getting another version of IE until they come out with IE9, whenever that is!

Firefox rules! Microsoft has gathered the features of Firefox and chrome all together in their IE8. but still it's not fast enough, and the menus and stuff seems too luxurious to work with. so after using it for like half an hour I decided to go back to firefox.

As long as sites are following standards (W3C etc.), they seem to work fine on IE8 (to my experience so far).
Which is the way it should be!

all browsers will give you trouble on any OS platform in time. all browsers will have security holes exploited in time. i personally do not favour one browser over another. I use IE for intranet sites due to NTLM working far better than any other browser. I use FF at home because im too lazy to try anything else. browsers not showing the site properly is entirely the fault of the site/page developer. standards be dammed, code better imo. i've seen sites that load like crap on FF and all out of alignment. no fault of FF. just crap coding. L2.net, L2ASP, L2Python u lazy developers.

NO problems on my end.
I think it is cool. do not like other then IE8.0
Simple and fast and convinient...
if you having problems, may be you did something wrong while installing, or your comp is going crazy:) I defend Microsoft with my Heart, lol:)

Well, I just tried IMDB in internet explorer 8, and guess what?? works and looks perfect. If you are having problems, you may need to check your settings.
internet explorer 8 doesn't run fast, it flies fast!! though I prefer firefox, I have to admit they are doing a good job.

I was skeptical at first but i tried it for the hell of it and its actually decent. Its faster than IE7 and those web accelerators put language translations in a very short reach.

@armisitiu
Total BS is right. One of the first things I did on Windows 7 is install Firefox and Opera after IE8 crashed opening my yahoo mail. I was like "holy shit, a site as popular as yahoo wasn't checked for compatibility, fuck this browser!"

So basically, you're pissed that IE7 didn't adhear to the standards... I get that. And now you are pissed because they realized they dropped the ball and are actually taking steps to rectify the problems? Realize that what's been done, is done. People wanted to design sites to be viewed properly on the browser that holds the largest marketshare and had to bend the standards to get things to look right. It will take some time to move forward, just as it would with any piece of software that is drastically different from it's previous versions.

Let's give people a little more than a week to get their house in order.

I'm sorry, but it really seems like some people will never be happy and just look for reasons to bitch...

IE8 works fine and where it does not the compatibility mode fixes any issues we've had thus far.

... and didn't MSFT say IE8 was going for standards compliance? could of swarn I read that somewhere.

@kidamnesiac
I'm just saying that MS should have gone by the standards a long time ago. It's simple really ... if you go by the rules than you can focus on other stuff like rendering speed or javascript interpretation or security. Don't try to reinvent the wheel every time you release a browser. Oh and that compatibility button...what is that? it's like saying "if it doesn't work please push this button" an maybe in the next version they will have 2 buttons an say "if it doesn't work with the first button please push this one...and then push them both really fast". Now that's just plain stupidity :). Oh and if you're tired of pushing buttons really fast to get to your web page just get Firefox (it doesn't have any "magical" button...it just works).

I had no choice in the matter, had to uninstall IE8 & go back to IE7. I use IE, Google Chrome, Firefox & Safari on numerous 32/64-bit Windows/Linux PCs & a solid week of IE8 @ home & @ work has been hell. At work I must access supplier web portals & none of them work reliably with IE8, compatibility mode doesn't help with any of them. When Google Chrome first came out, I used Chrome to access the very same supplier web portals & a few loaded incorrectly the first time, but all worked flawlessly ever since. My experience with IE8 surfing @ home was much better, most mainstream websites worked fine with IE8, but when accessing my Gmail accounts IE8 does not render reliably. I realize it's a chicken & egg scenario, I mean how can anyone expect all of "Dubya's internets" to work perfectly with a browser on it's release date! But last time I checked I'm not paid to test on Microsoft's behalf. I will go back to IE8, but am gonna wait until IE8 is the mainstream release for viewing web content.

IE8 crashed when i tried to read a review on the 4890 on this site! terrible. No idea why, i haven't seen it crash on any other site. Firefox all the way.
