If a DVR system and a network system use the same port, will they conflict?

We have a whole house DVR setup where the boxes interact with each other to access content stored on them. I want to configure a feature that Bright House (the cable company) calls "Echo Home Networking." This is supposed to give more wireless access points throughout the house that a device will connect to when the signal on the previous access point was getting weak, providing whole house coverage. The tech. came out and said that that it wasn't possible to have the echo setup in this house because the DVR system used a port that the network would be using had echo been installed. What I am wondering here is: Can I still use both systems as long as they aren't on the same cable? (If I didn't use a splitter on a single cable to run a TV and an access point) Or will one of these device's ports need to be switched?

The PROBLEM here is that you haven't explained exactly how you setup your own DVR system.

The only scenario I can see is that you are using the Coax cable connectors.

If they were wireless they'd go through your router so that would be fine.

If they were wired (ethernet) and went through your router that would be fine.

If they were not connected to the Bright House setup that would be fine.

*What PORT are you using then that makes this not work?

I'm guessing the coax cable setup.

Do they have their own TV boxes they want to install?

I couldn't find specifics on their setup either (the video isn't working).

This is all working through their setup. All of the coax cables in the situation run to a central hub in the garage. None of their DVR/cable boxes are connected to the router.(Arris TG1672) I don't know specifically what port number that they use.

Your original post seems to refer to physical ports, while your latest post to network service ports. It will be helpful in resolving your issue if you can provide clarification, and any other details about the port issue (port number, physical port needed, etc.).
