Hello, this year many manufacturers are adding AI to their products to try to get more consumers to buy their products. Looks like MS is integrating it to Windows. If I don't want AI stuff on my computer, does that mean I have to quit using Windows? Do we get an option to opt out AI in the OS?

There are usually guides for removing unwanted Windows features but that tends to be something you have to maintain manually. Each major update will likely put it back, or you will be performing manual updates from that point forward.

But you are also going to start seeing it in browsers more an more. Websites have been using chatbots for some time, and will soon move into more chatGPT based models in the near future.

The only place that I have not been able to turn off AI (at least in my perception) is when using Bing/webpage to search something as it comes up on the right side of the browser window. Otherwise I have turned off or hidden CoPilot and all that. I don't think I am using it, anyway.

How long will it be before Linux distros use AI in one form or another. What will you do then? AI is not all bad and whilst I certainly share some of your reservations about its use in some areas, there are many very positive advantages of AI. As has been mentioned already, AI already exists in many aspects of your life and you'll find it near impossible to eliminate AI from your life.

You have to quit using your phone, and living in a technologically advanced society.

But just because they call it AI, doens't mean it is intelligent. They call it that to SELL IT.

You would use auto-correct, wouldn't you? If they called it AI assisted or AI predictive text, it would still be the same thing doing the same job.
It's marketing.

You can always avoid using technology you don't need or want to use, but you cannot escape this technology existing.
For example, there are TVs and monitors with IR sensors that detect whether a person is in front of the screen. I don't care for such gimmicks and i would avoid a device with those sensors but they are useful in other applications, like video wall interactive screens and whatnot.
