I recently have been struggling with slow connection speeds using a wireless booster from my dads office(far away in a completely different building). I know that the booster is not the best setup, but is all i have at the moment. i have read online that I can not put two modems on the same phone line, but unlike them i have two if it makes a difference. I do have an extra DSL modem and router laying around that i would like to use. Is it possible to run two separate modems?

Solution
You can use two modems/routers (or gateways) if your ISP can provide you with two DSL service lines. Often they provide one DSL line and one additional line that is not available for DSL service, so you should check with your ISP.

Range extenders generally do not provide good bandwidth or increase range to remote locations. Consider other possible solutions like running an Ethernet cable from the other building to your location, or perhaps a pair of outdoor directional APs if the distance is substantial but you have line of sight.
