If I were to get a R9 390, would it still work with my Intel 6700K CPU?

Since Radeon is AMD? Would there be feature comparability issues that a gtx970 would benefit from on an Intel CPU? I just want to get the best card for my money to play the Witcher 3 and games like that.

Solution
the post above is a bit confusing so i will clear it up a bit, nvidia and amd gpus do NOT need to be matched with a amd or intel cpu, nor are there any features you gain by matching them. however at the moment nvidia cards are slightly more powerful then a radeon card at the same price point. the 290 and 970 preform almost the same at 1080 but at 4k the 390 begins to pull away with the extra vram.

I am only going to be at 1080p unelss I want to go higher at some point(Mainly going with 1080p because it's cheaper) but also something the Witcher 3 or bf4, would that benefit from the R9 and it's higher vram and stuff or would a 970 out preform it with clock speeds (I don't exactly know what determines the best speed and graphics of a card i.e. what would allow a game to run at ultra 60 fps) I really just want the best performance(Don't care about efficiency since I have 850W PSU) I understand witcher is super intense on graphics so would the R9 allow better performance at an ultra or high settings?

the 390 will do better job since the 970 has 3.5gb

you said in future u will play on 1080p+? the 390 will do great job either
