So I have a Dell with windows 8.1 and from what I've read the key is saved on the bios.
Now what I'm thinking of doing is this.
Remove the original hd with windows 8. Store it.
Install a brand new ssd and install windows 10 retail version on the Dell run that for a while.
In a few months when I finish building a new pc I would remove the ssd from the Dell to reformat and use on new pc with win 10.
Then take the original Dell hard drive with windows 8 and put it back in the Dell and turn it on and have it work like normal like nothing ever happpened.
My question is though would the windows 8 bios key get erased or overwritten with the win10 install. The dell will be a temporary gaming pc then go back to media player is why I want to swap .
Just not sure if it will let me go back
