Morning all,

If your motherboard tray is nonconductive, e.g., polycarbonate, it will not provide a ground for any of the motherboard mounting screws. Is it necessary to run a ground wire to on of the mounting screws?

I don't think it is, since one typically tests a new motherboard by setting it on the motherboard box and powering it up, but I would like the forum's wisdom on the question.

TIA

Larry

If you consider many laptop motherboards are attached to plastic panels, I wouldn't bother typing the grounding pads together with wire. They'll already be bonded to ground plane layers inside the pcb.

I'd suggest against motherboard back-plate from plastic.
It can collect electostatic charge and will be devastating against sensitive electronics.

Metallic back-plate is being used for a reason.
