Your assumtions are both wrong. Either way, if someone is so poor that $30 earbuds break the bank, how on earth is that someone affording ipods or iphones?

I am exreamly commited to repairing as much as possible, but I just dont use stuff like that. Im smart, I watch sales on my purchases, I picked up my sennheiser earbuds for $22. Less then the stock apple, and 10x better.

Try not to just take pot shots at someone personally without knowing them.

when i was in school, i had a friend on food stamps, but he made sure to have an ipod, an iphone, and 2 mid-high end for the time computers.

and 30$ will never break the bank, but add up all the little expenses up over a long period of time, having little money and not chucking a 30$ headphones when they break may not break the bank, but it also sure a hell doens mean that its not a hit on the wallet either.

me last experience with earbuds was the ones that came with my gameboy, yea, origioanl read and blue earbuds from the gameboy...

i replaced parts of the wire, had to electrical tape them more than once, at one point i re did the wire, it probably cost more to do that than to replace with similar quality, but at that point it was they lasted me so long i wanst going to give up on them...

i wonder where they ever ended up... i know i never threw them away.
