Im buying a new processor and i dont know if my motherboard is compatible with it

So as it says up there, i will buy a new CPU (Intel Core i3-8100 3.6GHz 6MB Smart Cache) and im not sure if my veeery old motherboard is compatible with it.. My motherboard: Asus P5E-VM SE

You have an MB with socket 775 and that processor requires socket 1151 and 300 series chipset.
If you want to get a significantly faster CPU you need to basically build a new PC.

1) need new CPU
2) need new motherboard
3) need new system memory (i.e. DDR4)
4) need to install Windows again (and likely pay for a new license)

5) if it's for gaming and the graphics card is crappy then may need that too

If you can find a Q9650 for $50 or so, AND it's a lot better than the CPU you have that might be a good budget upgrade choice.

For reference though, the i3-8350K (also 4C/4T) when overclocked to 5GHz which is relatively easy is up to 2.5x faster per core vs the Q9650.
