Hello,

I am looking for a software-based KVM switch but I don't know much about it so need assistance.

I'd like it to be free or low-cost.
I will use it on LAN only - so not open to WAN connections
2 Monitors - I want both PCs to use both monitors.

I was thinking of getting a hardware KVM switch but I don't have the room on my desk nor do I have enough power outlets.

Hello,

I am looking for a software KVM but I don't know much about it so need assistance.

I'd like it to be free or low-cost.
I will use it on LAN only - so not open to WAN connections
2 Monitors - I want both PCs to use both monitors.

I was thinking of doing a Hardware KVM, but I don't have the room on my desk nor do I have enough power outlets.

This is something that requires hardware based solutions.

So if it's hardware that I need, would you recommend any hardware kvm switches? I don't want to spend a lot.

but would like to make sure that my primary monitor can be used at 1080p 165 Hertz and my secondary 1080p @ 60 Hertz.

As far as Remote Connectivity Software - I am using Team Viewer but it doesn't allow use of both monitors.

Finding a KVM switch that suits your needs can be a bit of a challenge, as the market is quite diverse and each product offers different features. However, I can provide a few recommendations that should match your criteria, including support for different refresh rates and resolutions across two monitors.

It's important to note that you'll want to verify these recommendations with your own research to ensure compatibility with your specific setup. Here are a few KVM switches that you might consider:

  1. TESmart Dual Monitor KVM Switch - TESmart is known for producing high-quality KVM switches, and their dual monitor model supports DisplayPort connections with resolutions up to 4K. This model also includes EDID emulation to help prevent the issue you're currently experiencing. Although it might be a bit more expensive than some other models, user reviews suggest that it provides a reliable and high-performance experience.
  2. CKLau 4Kx2K Ultra HD 4 Port HDMI Cables KVM Switch - This KVM switch from CKLau supports up to 4K resolution and comes with HDMI cables. Although this isn't a DisplayPort model, you could potentially use HDMI to DisplayPort adapters to connect your monitors if they also support HDMI. This model also claims to support EDID pass-through, which could help with your issue.
  3. IOGEAR 2-Port 4K Dual View DisplayPort KVMP with USB 3.0 Hub (GCS1942) - This model from IOGEAR supports 4K resolutions and has built-in EDID emulation. This is a premium model and may be a bit more expensive, but it offers robust support for multiple monitors and high resolutions.
