Hi, here is relevant pc info:

windows 10 64 bit

Graphics card GPU XFX RADEON Double D R9 280X

Monitor ASUS MG278Q (144Hz)

my problem is that my Monitor dosen't show me the option to put into 144HZ

my primary monitor at the moment is an ASUS VG278HE which i can run at 1920 x 1080, 144Hz without problem. But when i connect my MG278Q (into the same slot as i just run my other screen at in 144Hz) it dosen't allow me to go above 60Hz. Even if i turn down the reselution to 1920 x 1080.

Is there an hardware problem with my screen or is there something im missing out? i also do have the latest drivers on my amd card

Solution
According to the notes at the bottom of the specifications list for the MG278Q...

https://www.asus.com/us/Monitors/MG278Q/specifications/

Only DisplayPort and the HDMI-1 port support 2560x1440 at 144Hz. The other HDMI port (HDMI-2) only supports up to 1920x1080 at 120Hz. And it doesn't mention the DVI-D port at all there. So you might just need to use a different port on the back of the monitor. It also says that DisplayPort is required for FreeSync though.

okey so if i buy a mini DP, i should be gucci for 2560 x1440 144 Hz or is the mini DP not able to deliver at 144 hz?

As far as I know, the Mini DisplayPort connections on that card are v1.2, and should support 144Hz at 1440p.

As a bit of a correction though, the 280X apparently doesn't actually have support for FreeSync adaptive sync. Some other cards from that generation do, but not that one. So I believe you should be able to get the 144Hz refresh rate at 1440p over DisplayPort, just not adaptive sync.

Yea i saw that FreeSync wasn't supportet, however a new problem have accure.

I went to the store today and got the DP to mini DP cable. plugged it in and afterwards the monitor were unresponsive. it is correctly plugged in on both ends,I have the latest AMD drives. i also tried the trick were you unplug any other monitor cable, power to both the pc and monitor and reinplug both DP and power adapters didn't give any resaults tho, im out of ideas but if i put my dvi back in it runs without problems, but with the DP cable The monitor get signals from the pc untill windows starts to boot. i can get into the Bios and fool around there but when i try to boot my system it just turns black and give me and says "DisplayPort no singal"

What resolution and refresh rate was the Windows desktop set to use at the time of booting? It sounds like Windows might be trying to set it to some incompatible settings. Is it set to 2560x1440 at 144Hz, or something else? You should probably try setting the Windows desktop to something like 1080p at 60Hz first, see if that works over the DisplayPort connection, and then try increasing it to higher resolutions and refresh rates from within Windows to see if those work as well.

i have gotten the screen to work by som help by my other monitor. i used the duplicate mode windows offers, and by force it into 1080p at 60 Hz. but if i try to expand it in windows dual monitor settings to make it work on its own it automatically puts itself into 1440p at 144Hz and turns black. So the calble is not broken. is this a monitor problem or could it be something else? i find it logical to be an hardware problem i guess since it works fine at 1080p 60Hz but dosen't work in 1440p 144 hz. and im using an DP to min DP 1.2 or could it be a problem with the cable that it can't show more then 144hz, i just bought it yesterday so i find that unlikely, however this is the settings 1080p when it works to duplicate: https://imgur.com/gallery/CWRe0GD this is the settings when it dosen't work: https://imgur.com/a/7ymnHpo

my other asus screen can run 144 hz 1080p without problem
