So my computer black screened and i flipped the switch on the back of my PSU, when i did that and tried to turn my computer back on it wouldn't come back on, the only thing it would do is light up my mouse, keyboard, the front light on my case, and move my CPU fan just a a little, this would only last about 1 second before everything turned off again, i pressed the power button and nothing would happen unless i unplugged my computer and then plugged it back in again, then it would only do the same thing, i looked on other forums and it said to take out the CMOS battery for 10 minutes then put it back and that did not work i am at a complete loss. thanks for your time

Hello... Yes... it is one of the "safety features" if the CPU fan connection or "Tach" feed back is not read by the MB/BIO's... can cause a Boot stop... check that connection or plug it back in... Or try a spare fan connection there B / If all else looks good try a different PS with your system.

Hello... here is the proper CMOS clear procedure...

You could have a Shorted or failed plug in card or drive... try removing anything/everything extra... and try a BOOT with just RAM, CPU and MB... un-plug your case connections too B / if it boots... add one thing at a time till the failed/shorted device is determined.

...after that I suggest Testing with another PS.

Take your time here and be slow and careful to your MB... look in your MB manual/Pdf for pictures and location of the SW/pins. B )
1) un-plug PS from wall.
2) remove MB battery
3) place jumper pins OR press switch on MB to clear the capacitors... for ~2 mins
4) remove Jumper/switch connection.
5) re-install battery
6) plug monitor into the MB or video card output.
7) plug in PS to wall
8) Boot computer.

Hello... OK... Check your CPU fan connection on the MB, for a shut down condition/input... Then the next troubleshooting step is removing all extras power devices from your MB connections and PS... you could have a failed/shorted device that the Power supply is shutting down from.

Hello... I would remove your Heatsink cooler... remove the CPU and inspect your CPU socket for thermal paste or electrical interference/shorting problem B / use rubbing alcohol to clean the CPU... if it's in the socket? there are very small connections to the CPU, and you CANNOT clean them with anything manually B /

Hello... I have never seen or had a BAD CPU... or one that caused a power supply to go into protection mode... it is the last item on my list of replacement parts. Do you have any History on your system of Power problems before? If you are lost, tired and just guessing here, I would suggest taking your system to a local repair shop... and they might have a answer-spare parts-solution for you in a couple hours... and could cost less than a NEW CPU would? B /

1)What are your Parts/System?
2)New or OLD?
3)Got any RMA left?

i have had no power problems, my parts are: GTX 760, AMD FX 6120, thermaltake 600w PSU, and 10 gigs of ram. The GTX 760 and the FX 6120 are kinda old, the 6120 is about like 5 so years old and the 760 is kinda hard to tell because i got it used, and i do not know what RMA is.

Hello... Try a CMOS clear and booting with just 4GB or 8gb's of RAM as a "simple test"? B /

RMA "Return Material Authorization" is the warranty return of new items... so you don't qualify here... B )

a local shop should have a spare AMD processor to test with your MB, call and ask first... or identify the problem with your other parts? B /
