[SOLVED] I'm not sure if my graphics card is working with my monitor

So I built my first pc and it turned on and everything however when i connected the HDMI from my monitor to my graphics card it said no signal. I then tried connecting my HDMI cable to the computer itself and that didnt work either can anyone help me out?
