i am planning to updrade to a GTX 1660, my current GPU is a GTX 1050 2GB and i have 16GB of ram. My cpu is also an i5 7400. i play at 1080p and i mainly play fortnite. would my i5 7400 bottleneck the 1660 a lot ?
No, I don't think there would be any serious bottleneck issues. But It also depends on the game being played though. Some PC games are very graphic demanding, whereas others are not. Some games are more CPU-bound though..
This combination between GTX 1660 and Intel Core i5-7400 @ 3.00GHz has less than 8% bottleneck in many games and is perfect match to avoid FPS loss, assuming we can trust the findings listed on this website.
I used to use a gtx 1050 2gb and a comparable CPU in Fortnite and had the same stutters at even low settings. I haven't tested the game since I upgraded my GPU to an 8gb card where vram shouldn't be a limit, but I have seen multiple occurrences of stutter in Fortnite with a 2gb 1050.
The stuttering could be because the vram but may also be the cable between the GPU & monitor. My FPS was steady in the Division 2 but appeared very stuttery (vsync on/Freesync on) while using HDMI. I swapped it over to Displayport and now it's buttery smooth.
