I'm starting to think it's unsolvable. i'll probably end up selling my pc if i can't fix it.

it used to be that my computer "crashed" in only certain games. (it either completely freezes and audio cuts out or it restarts without any warning) but now in most games i've played recently it stutters horribly, it acts like the frame rates drop from 60 to 15 every second. i've had a fps counter up while playing and they don't show the drops. it's not a heating issue, not a memory issue either (i've already tried everything to do with those). i've been told it might be a power supply issue but from what i've seen my pc only requires about 400w tops and i've got a 500w 80 bronze. my pc specs are:

cpu: amd fx 6300 black edition
gpu: asus rx 480 4gb
ram: 1x8gb
hdd: 7500rpm 1tb
accesories; 3 case fans

this has been bugging me for months and no one has any clue as to what's causing it.
i have bluescreenview and it says ive had over 40 bsods from the same problem.
If you need anymore information ask.

I haven't been able to find any crashes in event viewer. it's like it never even happens. though a program i use bluescreenview records a lot of them. i'm not for sure how to copy that information directly here so ill put all that i can in.

i've checked event viewers system logs, there isnt anything that stands out in device manager other than a unknown device which i've disabled.

i belive its a evga 500W, ive thrown away the box and papers so i cant tell you the model # unless it has it on the side.

yeah thats it, it says on the label it outputs close to 450 which is good enough for what i've got.

im using driver booster 4 and its supposed to auto check all of that. if it has done its job then everything is up to date. i also have audio problems when watching videos sometimes (i thought i should mention it) though i rolled back a driver for it and it kinda fixed it. i've got the latest bios for my motherboard.

I wouldn't blindly trust that 3rd party software. It's not too difficult to look at the drivers in the device manager, and compare them to the latest available on the manufacturer's website.

You can also check windows updates. The optional updates will usually include any device driver updates.

yeah true, i installed the drivers manually before, then i decided to start using that software. i played a few hours of battlefield 1 and i didn't have any incidents. i had turned down the voltage in the gpu and set the power limiter to -6% it seems to have had an effect. so maybe my gpu is unstable (its an asus ocd version)? anyways thanks for your interest, you guys are awesome :) peace

It may be the CPU, I had A FX 6200 Black Edition that did a similar thing.(other than the rate drops) After one of the time it shut of it wouldn't turn back on. Many years later, I tried getting it to work again getting a new motherboard but just gave up and got a new CPU(a FX 8370) as well; and that worked with the new motherboard when the old one did a similar thing as on the old one

i've underclocked mine to 3.3 ghz i think but for some reason it acts up so i just leave it alone. maybe the motherboard wasn't able to handle it? i hope mine is something simple.

i've read that the RX 480 has/had some power draw issues and that its more stable with not so much power rushing to it. i didn't know i could do that, i've only seen setting to do with the cpu.
