I want to upgrade my pc with as little to take out as possible and price wise. For example just upgrading the gpu and adding ram will strengthen my aging pc. I don't want to do a total revamp. This is what I have right now:AMD Ryzen 5 1600 6 core
B350 Gaming Pro Carbon MS-7B00
DDR 4 16 gigs
Nvidia GeForce GTX 1050 Ti.
AMD k17

The only recent game that I want to play is Dragon's Dogma 2. Most others are games recent in recent years. Thanks.

I would say 5700x over a 5600. 2 more cores, for only $17 more, is a no brainer.

PCPartPicker Part List

CPU: AMD Ryzen 7 5700X 3.4 GHz 8-Core Processor ($162.00 @ Amazon)
Total: $162.00
Prices include shipping, taxes, and discounts when available

You definitely will want to invest in a better GPU, though. What is the make/model of your power supply?

I have a EVGA 650 G3 power supply. Can the Ryzen 7 5700x work with my current gpu?

I think the 5700x is a 65 watt cpu so you should be good on that. Just make sure to update your bios.

I’m assuming that this is your board.

On my phone at the moment, but check to see if the latest bios versions support the 5700x. If so pick up one of those, the you could sell your old cpu for a little and upgrade the graphics card.

As long as you're running the latest BIOS the board should run any 5000 series CPU though it looks like support is only in beta BIOS releases. I'm not sure if that's just due to platform age or if there are issues, but I'd assume the former. Just make sure you don't get more than a 65W part and absolutely do not use any of the overclocking features like PBO.

While the 1600 is comparatively slow it'd be worth looking at CPU/GPU usage in any games you're playing to see where the bottleneck is. It's possible your video card is more of an immediate issue. MSI Afterburner is my typical go to in a pinch to check usage information as it's fairly accurate and shows both CPU/GPU in the same place.

Yes, that's my motherboard. Another poster mentioned something about the latest BIOS being a beta BIOS.

1600?

I had an asrock b350 that I think ran on a beta bios for a while. Originally they didn’t want to support 300 series boards on the 5000 series CPUs but as I recall they got so much negative press from consumers that amd gave in.

Yikes, so I got the ryzen 5 5600. I updated to the latest BIO's. I changed my cpu and than I got a no screen when I turned the computer on. Than I switched back to my original cpu and it's still a black screen when I turn it on. Any ideas how I can fix this? Thanks.

Sometimes you need to leave it alone for a few minutes so the BIOS 'retrains'. How long did you wait?

It's not working. I took out the battery, set back in. Nothing. Let the computer sit for hours and nothing. Thinking I might as well upgrade the mother board or gpu. Perhaps I was supposed to keep the battery out longer. Not sure.

Check the motherboard manual. There’s typically a set of pins you can short that will reset the CMOS as well.
I did this and nothing. I removed the battery and also used a screw driver to reset cmos.

I figure I might as well get a new mother board keep everything else perhaps change the gpu. Any suggestions?

You may have knocked your ram or CPU power cable loose during the upgrade. Try reseating the ram and checking all your connections. Turn off the power again, remove the bios battery and short the bios reset pins for 10 seconds. After that, triple check your connections inside the case and to the case from the peripherals, make sure your monitor is on the right input, and give it another go. It should take 2 - 5 minutes to post after that, so let it sit for a bit.

Nothing yet. Maybe it's taking a long time to retrain. Or maybe I bricked my motherboard. The latest BIOS said it was a beta. Not sure what that would mean. Someone else suggested I leave one stick of ram on A2. I'll keep trying. Thanks.

If I get a new mother board would a gigabyte B550M DS3H work? Also keeping the same old gpu be a problem or should I update as well? Thank you.
