hi all, a quick question about psu's

i have a thermaltake toughpower 850w psu. i like it. its just people keep telling me to go with corsair brand.

i dont know why this is. does it matter what kind of brand you have? if say i did have a dodgy brand, how would it compare to a well known brand of psu.

can a dodgy brand hurt the components in my computer??

i have no knoledge in psu's so please, enlighten me with tales of good psu's and what bad ones compared to good ones do to the computer.

thanks!!

I would stay with it. It might not be a class leading PS but it is far from being dodgy. It is based on the same platform (CWT PSH) the TX Corsair is which other than being a few year old design is still quite capable of doing it's job.

Over the years I have lost quite a few supplies including 2xAntecs 2x Enermax 1xSparkle and a 6+ generic and have not lost any other components as a result.

But I have seen people lose most of their system from a PS failure, I just consider myself lucky that I haven't lost anything other than the supplies themselves.

Personally I have switched to Seasonic for the last couple of years and will in the next couple months replace my main supply with a X750 and move my M12D to my secondary system to replace a 6+ year old Antec TC 550 before it dies on me.
