Im upgrading to ryzen tomorrow

Hi, im upgrading to ryzen tomorrow from an fx-770k. I bought my pc pre built as it was the easiest option at the time, and it came with windows 8.1. When i upgrade will i need to completely reinstall windows as win10, or can i keep 8.1 until i can afford windows 10? Thanks in advance

yes you need to completely reformat and reinstall windows with an upgrade that big.

you can probably still upgrade your windows 8.1 for free if you have the CD key. Microsoft never seemed to have stopped accepting the free upgrades, they just stopped promoting it.

If it came with a prebuilt pc, it's an oem license. Therefore you aren't supposed to move it to another pc.

You can also... Install and run windows 10 without activating it.
