Hey guys, recently i've gotten a bit worried. i posted on reddit asking if my current PC would support a 1060 3GB.
currently i have:
ryzen 3 1300x
2x4 8GB RAM @3000mhz DDR4
RX 460 4gb
ASRock AB350M socket AM4
Corsair 650 Watts VS650 gaming power supply.

my post was asking whether or not the PSU would have the cable to plug into the 1060 3GB (im a noob), and whether it would work well with the other parts of the computer.
the responses were:
yes it will have the cable
yes it will work

however there was a few comments saying that it is a very bad power supply and they would suggest getting a different one. they also said to look at reviews (on something guru, cant remember) but both amazon and e-buyer had very good reviews along with this guru website. the only real complaints people had was that it can get quite noisy.
however, them saying that it is a bad powersupply has really worried me kinda. i cant really afford to buy the GPU along with the PSU as i have saved for awhile to buy it.

either: https://www.ebuyer.com/752928-zotac-geforce-gtx-1060-mini-3gb-gddr5-graphics-card-zt-p10610a-10l
or: https://www.aria.co.uk/Products/Components/Graphics+Cards/NVIDIA+GeForce/GeForce+GTX+1060/ASUS+GeForce+GTX+1060+DUAL+OC+-+3GB+Graphics+Card?productId=66601&utm_source=uk.pcpartpicker.com&utm_medium=referral

(not too sure which is better if you could help me out with this too!)

i have had the powersupply for 3 years now and i haven't had any problems with it. however if im going to be pulling more power from it with a GPU that needs a cable then im a little concerned with whether these guys are right?

if anyone could help me that would be great

The Corsair VS series is probably the lowest quality power supply Corsair offers. It is meant as a "system integrator", not a mid range gaming PC with independant GPU. https://www.hardwareinsights.com/corsair-vs450-review/ (The 450w version is based on the same design and most of the same components as the 650w variant).

You want to use a quality power supply for a quality build, after all it is the heart of any system.
It has a lifespan on its own which is affected by the build quality, it affects other components life span, affects noise, affects reliability such as crashes, freezing, lockups, and protection against abnormalities such as a input voltage spike, fan breaking, external component short.

By the way the site you were...

The vs series is quite mediocre and a replacement wouldn't hurt.
For the 1060 try getting the 6gb version as it's about 15% faster than the 3gb.

the 1060 3gb is a lot more expensive though. like £60 more expensive. its like 20% more expensive for only like 5-7% better, from the reviews and videos i have seen.

as for the powersupply, do u think it would be fine to keep if upgrading to the new card?

Look at it this way and live by this mantra: BUY NICE OR BUY TWICE.

Is it going to kill you to hold off for a wee bit longer to save a bit more money to get the better GPU or PSU? In relation to the GPU, the thing to remember is that games are continuing a steady climb to using more and more GPU memory; while the 6GB may seem like a less than worthwhile expense due to the marginally small performance difference, those 3GB of additional memory will probably allow you to play games you may not be able to with the lesser card and due to that, it'll last you longer before an upgrade will be required.

Best of luck in whatever choice you make, but remember what I said and do it right the first time.

okay thank you! but sorry if this caused confusion but i was mainly referring to my PSU. is it good? will it hold up? I've reviewed differing opinions but haven't found any reviews saying its "destroyed my PC"?

If it's been reviewed by reputable sources and found to not be a hot mess of garbage, I'd be inclined to say you're fine. You want to make sure that it has sufficient power for everything in your system and the appropriate 12v rails to handle that GPU. Proper connections without having to utilize adapters is also important.

I use a RaidMax 850 on my FX8350 build and have for 6+ years now and it's worked flawlessly. I've heard opinions from pundits and read reviews just as you have. Did that sway my decision? No. I took it all into consideration and went with it because I personally felt comfortable with my choice. We're dealing with electronics here and it may work one minute and stop the next. You'll never know for sure. Go with what you think best and be satisfied.

The vs series is bottom of tier 3. After 3 years I would advice replacing it due to component degradation. You can however just use it and it could be fine.

im not to sure if it has or hasn't. i don't really know where to look

thank you! no ones said much negative things apart from noise.

By the way the site you were thinking of is JonnyGURU . The forums there are home to many power supply experts.

I'd start saving up for atleast one of the PSUs, preferably the Pure Power 10: https://uk.pcpartpicker.com/products/compare/sFfmP6,FQ648d,YBp323,N7Jkcf/

okay thank you very much. if the one ive got now is preforming fine with a RX460 would it preform well with the 1060 3gb too? there doesnt seem to be much more power drawn from it (40watts?). the PSU doesnt make any noise (ive been running it for several hours now and the only time it made noise was just after start up)
