Image files to video DVD

Hi everyone,

I'm working on a project that involves burning a 2-DVD set of a school play for my son. As a part of this project, I have been asked to burn an 'extras' DVD that includes work by the students, in the form of both images and videos.

Is there a simple way to format a single DVD disk so that it plays a single video file, no menu or anything, when placed into the DVD player, and when inserted into a computer, acts as a data disk that has images and a video on it?

Using Windows 7.

With DVDs it is either one or the other. Same with CDs too. To economize you can try using re-writable DVDs.

hmmm, what i meant was, maybe use a hidden folder on the dvd for pictures so the dvd player thinks its only movies on the dvd, but when you put it into the comp it will see the hidden folder...

sorry, i guess im a little confused with your answer, and my dvd player plays movies, pictures, and songs

The format for playing (reading) a DVD on a computer is completely different from the format for playing in a DVD player. That's why a move DVD which plays on a DVD player will not play (read) in a computer. Your best bet may be to use re-writable DVDs.

Except it will for me, in almost all cases. My computer must be defective. (All of them. Every HTPC I've ever used must be defective.)

Your best bet may be to use re-writable DVDs.

I don't understand this suggestion. It's extra cost, allows for the production to be written over, and doesn't really solve the problem.

Anyway, I just burned a DVD in Nero using something called 'Mixed Mode' using these instructions from 2009. Working great so far

wouldnt it be possible to put the movie in the root of the dvd and the pictures in another folder, so the dvd player will only play the movie but when you pop it into a pc it will let you navigate to the pictures?

Actually, this is pretty similar to how it works - from what I've found out, everything goes in the root, but the DVD player will read directly into the VIDEO_TS folder, ignoring all other folders in the root unless necessary. As it stands, it ignores my photography folder.

Yep, the completed product works perfectly, on multiple Windows, Apple and Linux machines. Glad I didn't give up
