How can I improve my PC gaming performance on relatively new and demanding games such as Prey and The Witcher 3? Any tips are appreciated.

My pc specs:

GPU: Sapphire HD 7950 (the one with the 2 fans)
CPU: 3.33 gigahertz AMD FX -6100 Six-Core
MB: Gigabyte GA-990FXA-UD3
PS: XFX TS 650W
RAM: Corsair 2 x 4GB DDR3 1600Mhz
Cooling: CoolerMaster Hyper 212 EVO
Case: Zalman Z11 Neo
HDD: Seagate 1,5 TB
Monitor: Samsung Syncmaster Widescreen 24" - resolution 1920-1200

Should/ Can I overclock the cpu or the gpu or both? Or any other way of improving it? I do not intend a hardware upgrade any time soon but if I did, which component is most lacking here?

You could overclock both but you wont get that much performance out of the two anyways, I would suggest saving up for new parts as its really your only option. With cooling like that on your CPU you may aswell give it a go, as long as you know what you're doing.

Best bet would be to upgrade both the CPU and GPU, but if you only have the money for one, I'd upgrade the CPU. The FX 6100 wasn't a very fast CPU when it was released and definitely isn't any better today. I had an R9 280x (Rebadged HD 7970) and an FX 8320 and even that was holding the GPU back in certain games, an FX 6100 would be even worse.

I wish I could 😀 And yes, they seem to get pretty hot :)

Thank you for your reply. I guess I will do that and save up for my next upgrade.
