I don’t want to start a new thread. In this post I am appealing to all the Faithful and Eternal posters as well as Members and knowledgeable Strangers to help improve the Enhancing System Performance sticky.
I have received a number of good comments and suggestions and I do know that there are problems with the sticky. Unfortunately, I will be very busy this week and on the weekend and I cannot devote the time necessary to revise the sticky and make it more useful.
So please, if you feel something needs to be changed or added, send me private messages and I will incorporate your input into the sticky.
If your messages contain URLs, please include the http:// markups.
Please also keep in mind that we are not trying to write an all-inclusive manual here. Most of the problems users face are quite banal. I recall the time when I owned a small computer company and a client, a real estate management company, called and said they had a network problem and were not able to prepare bills for the tenants. I dispatched my network guy to fix the problem. Five hours later he called with tears in his voice and said that he was unable to find anything wrong with the network. I went there myself and after a brief examination I realized that the problem was not with the network so I began checking the cables. You guessed what the problem was? Right! The PRINTER’S POWER CABLE WAS NOT PLUGGED IN!
So, this is what we would ideally want to do: help people resolve the problems they have based on the premise that most performance problems are, in fact, silly things like spyware or a virus or having 50 things running in the background.
Thanks in advance, guys.
