Alright so I have a resolution in game that I can select and no where else, which is 1280 x 600. My problem is that 1 of my friends cannot use it cause it's not available and the other can. I plan on getting a new computer soon and I'm worried I can't use that resolution in game, which would actually change a lot. My native resolution is 1366 x 768.

QUESTIONS
How can I make sure my new monitor can run games at 1280 x 600?
Why does 1280 x 600 make my games FOV change by quite a lot and none of the other resolutions do such as 1280 x 720 1024 x 768?

Solution

Because 1280x720 and 1024x768 are both common aspect ratios, 16:9, and 4:3. 1280x600 is a very atypical aspect ratio (32:15), which is why no games or video cards actually support it properly. Besides changing FOV, I wouldn't be surprised if the image is actually distorted a bit too, due to vertical stretching.

And btw, it's wise to check the specs on any display you play on to find out what resolutions it's capable of displaying.
