Hey all, I have a question about in home networking with peripherals. Basically, in my home currently I have a router to support all my wireless devices. However, I have my desktop PC directly connected to an ethernet on the wall that connects directly with my providers terminal. I am trying to figure out a way to bridge my wireless network to some sort of device I can connect to my computer to also be able to be a part of my in home wireless network for the purpose of LAN support, like streaming from my PC to devices connected on the wireless network. The caveat here is to still be able to connect wired to my portal so I can get the full speed that a wired connection provides. So simply put, is there anyway to connect my desktop to my wireless network while still being able to utilize a hard line connection without the router being close to my PC.

When you say 'providers terminal' are you talking about a cable modem or some other gateway? I'm not sure I understand your network typology as described. Additionally, are you asking if it's phsyically possible to connect your PC to a router that is dual purpose as a WAP?

For instance if you have a cable modem that would be a multi purpose device which acts as a gateway/router/switch. In that instance it would most likely have WiFi capability as well as several LAN ports. You'd just plug you're PC into it directly with Cat5e or Cat6 Ethernet. As long as you're not dropping a run over 300 feet you'd be fine. You'd shouldn't have to use a bridge device in a small SOHO environment.

I am connected to a fiber terminal that converts the incoming fiber optics to ethernet. No modem or router between like with Centurylink or Comcast. Said terminal is not capable of wireless networking or anything like that, not even LAN.

Not sure why you would have a wireless network in your house that is not connected to the internet but it is as simple as putting in a wireless card on your machine setting it to connect to the wireless network but manually set the IP address and leave the default gateway and dns fields blank.

Now if you have someway connected the router and your PC to the same internet connection it gets extremely complex quickly.
