Hey guys,
I’m in the market for a new laptop and I’m looking for suggestions on where to look, but mainly what to buy. I’d like an ultrabook that has a capable GPU so that I can still enjoy my library of games at a decent graphics level. I don’t want a 15 pound gaming behemoth that I’d have to lug around campus.

1. What is your budget?
$2,000. If necessary, I could spend more.

2. What is the size of the notebook that you are considering?
I prefer a 15 inch laptop, but willing to compromise for something smaller.

3. What screen resolution do you want?
At this price point, I would like a 4K display.

4. Do you need a portable or desktop replacement laptop?
Portable. I’d be taking this laptop with me to and from the library and class.

5. How much battery life do you need?
A fair amount. I’m thinking 7 hours and up.

6. Do you want to play games with your laptop? If so then please list the games that you want to with the settings that you want for these games. (Low,Medium or High)?
I would like to be able to play my entire steam library which include less demanding games like CS:GO all the way to the Witcher 3. I’m definetly willing to compromise on the settings for high end games.

7. What other tasks do you want to do with your laptop? (Photo/Video editing, Etc.)
Simple content consumption like YouTube and Netflix.

8. How much storage (Hard Drive capacity) do you need?
I would like to have both a HDD (1tb) and an SSD (500gb).

9. If you are considering specific sites to buy from, please post their links.
I am not.

10. How long do you want to keep your laptop?
I’d like this laptop to last me well after I finish my undergrad.

11. What kind of Optical drive do you need? DVD ROM/Writer,Bluray ROM/Writer,Etc ?
A Blu-ray is really appreciated, but not something I absolutely must-have.

12. Please tell us about the brands that you prefer to buy from them and the brands that you don't like and explain the reasons.
I have no brand preference.

13. What country do you live in?
I live in the U.S

14. Please tell us any additional information if needed

I’ve been looking at the XPS 15 with a 1050ti as a contender, but want more options.

Thank you.

For a thin gaming laptop, XPS is a good pick, Razer Blade and Gigabyte Aero are options as well, really not too many gaming systems you would want to get that are light. Light and small = less cooling which is bad for computers.

4k in a laptop screen is not very good, especially for gaming since you will be running at 1080 resolution anyway. 15 or even 17 screen at higher than 1440 resolution gets way too small.
