I'm finally in the market for a new monitor but I'm not sure how to proceed and I'm looking for advice. I've searched a few threads and read different recommendations but I don't think I'm any further along then when I started. Though I really like playing games on this PC, its not the only thing I'm using it for.

I built the computer in April starting with an i5 4690k and upgrading to an i7 4790k. Then I jumped from a GTX1060 to a GTX1080 a couple months ago. I wanted to build something that would play most games on ULTRA in 1080p and recently started buying games through Steam. (Link to my build: https://ca.pcpartpicker.com/b/Hq3bt6) I like FPS style games, but I don't play them exclusively.

I'm currently using a Samsung 245BW and I think I finally want to replace it.
I'm thinking 27" inches or higher, and I want to try an IPS panel. I hate screen tearing and I think this is the source of my confusion. I know that a GTX1080 isn't a real '4k' card especially if you want to play current games on an ultra preset, but it appears to be overkill for 1080p gaming. I'm happy with 60FPS and not really interested in anything less than that. Should I increase resolution to drop my FPS?

Should I get:

- 4K monitor at lower HZ and keep costs reasonable
- Should I look at an Ultrawide? (i'm not against this idea)
- 1440p monitor with higher HZ so that I can lessen the tearing effect (do I even bother with 1440p?)
- The same size monitor (around 24") with G-Sync?

I live in Canada, and I think I'm aiming for a $400-500 range. (including tax) I'm trying to decide whether I should be focusing on resolution or getting something with a higher HZ rating. I just want to be wowed I guess.

I was looking that these, but honestly I don't know what I'm doing:

Samsung
LG

Please help.

For gaming:
Racing, fps, fast motion: Higher fps is better.
Strategy or slower motion: 4K @ 60 is fine.
Other uses???
For work/study I can't stand anything less than 4K at ~27-30". 1440 at 27" would be totally unacceptable for me.

So what's your priority?

Mine:
Gaming: 1080 100hz 24"
Study: 4K 30"
Work: 5K 27"

I think I'm leaning toward 4k/60hz.

Would something like this be good?

Hello friend dont take my suggestions as the best choices because i just did a fast search about the monitors , but i ll share some opinions.

I looked on the site you used to find your recommendations.
1)Cheap for what you get : (caution some bad ratings) I dont like that big monitor i would stick to 27 maximum

2)Is 2K and has 75hz refresh rate :

Asus is a trustworthy brand but I would really recommend Dell monitors for IPS i believe they are experts on this.

Things i believe you should consider :

1)Decide if you want speakers on the monitor

2)Have on mind that 4K is a small burden for your FPS( < = 60)

3)I have a 144hz monitor .The difference is that everything seems a bit more "alive" or "natural" The truth for you normal is what you re used to. (not really worth the extra cash)

4) 2K should be the right thing for 1080 (high hz to use the card to full potential )

For me this is perfect (no ips and *price*) :
2K 144hz G-Sync , but in canada it has higher price

Hope i was helpful.

Go with the Free sync monitor i heard some impreeive feedback for 4K & 2K results dont buy the first 1 you see. Ask around get 10 different opinions or go round you IT shops & look & test them the best way to know what you like & can handle & gauge from spending $500 or half that & pick up something else.
