Question Inconsistent i7 Instability (Reboots) - - but i3 works fine ?

We have a batch of Gigabyte GA-IMB310TN motherboards. When an Intel i7 processor is installed, the system experiences random, unpatterned restarts. Crucially, when an Intel i3 processor is installed on the same motherboard, the system operates perfectly stable without any restart issues. This indicates the problem is specifically triggered by the i7 processor's characteristics (e.g., power draw, heat generation, or specific microcode interaction).

Troubleshooting Steps Performed So Far:

We have already conducted extensive internal diagnostics:

  1. Power Supply Unit (PSU) Verification: We have thoroughly tested and confirmed that the power supply unit is stable and adequate for the i7 processor. This has been ruled out as the direct cause.
  2. BIOS Update & Settings Adjustment: We updated the BIOS to the latest version and adjusted specific settings (e.g., CPU power delivery, voltage regulation) based on our analysis.
  3. Inconsistent Results Across Units:
    • One motherboard, after the BIOS update and settings adjustment, has been stable for over 10 days with an i7 processor.
    • Another motherboard, after the same BIOS update and settings, has been stable for 2 days.
    • However, two other motherboards (out of 4 tested so far), despite receiving the exact same BIOS update and settings, continue to exhibit the random restart issue with the i7.
    • We have 10 additional motherboards of the same model that still need to be tested.

Motherboard Model: Gigabyte GA-IMB310TN
Processor Models: Specific i7 model(s) causing issues, and i3 model(s) that work.
BIOS Version: f15b
RAM: crucial 8gb, ddr4
PSU: 65w, input 100-240v, output 19v, 3.42A
BIOS settings: Default

There are i7 models that draw way more than 65W.
And you also have to account for power drawn by other components.
Your PSU is insufficient.

BTW - motherboard description says this:
Supports 9th and 8th Generation Intel® Core™ Processors up to 65W
With 65W PSU you can use only low power 35W CPUs - like i7-9700T, i7-8700T.

I am using i7 9th Gen processor.

I tried 90w too. It got short circuit within couple of hrs. So shifted back to 65w. Yes, but it did not reboot during that time,

I did one more test, The motherboard getting restart at 110 Volts, I added a step up transformer to 220 Volts. And now its working fine. No restart. But this is not permenent solution as I cannot attach a step up with my product. Need further help.
