Hello all, this is my first post!!

Love the site, have learned a lot, however I am at my wits end trying to get this all in sync. Heregoes, I hope this is the right forum:

I currently have Hughesnet as my ISP as I didn't know any better when I moved back from college. As most of you probably know, I would have better luck building my own dish and stealing internet from North Korea than try and accomplish anything online with Hughesnet. Luckily my contract is almost up and I am open to suggestions on a better alternative than my phone for a new source of internet. (I live in the middle of nowhere and have no available cable, or fiber options. DSL is an unknown, AT&T website says they wont offer to me, however a company named Frontier supposedly will, although I havent researched them).

Now, I do have unlimited data on my AT&T iPhone 6 plus, and it is also jailbroken.

My router is an Asus RT-N65U running Padavan 3.0.3.9-099 firmware.

Devices in need of internet:
Desktop PC - (duhhh my baby gots to have good internets)
Dish satellite tv box - (not sure if it is nesseccary, as only needed for on demand content)
Vizio e55-e2 - (has chromecast built in, also requires phone for "smartcast" aka the remote)

My router, tv, dish, etc. are all located in my living room.
Desktop pc is in an adjacent room.

The desktop is connected to the router via ethernet, and is also connected to the TV directly via HDMI.

There are 5 main goals of my home entertainment center:

1. Watch good ol' tv
2. Watch netflix/hulu/youtube/etc
3. Listen to music via local itunes files and online streaming (i.e spotify)
4. Play video games (windows xbox 360 controller)
5. Watch Blue Ray discs (BD drive in computer)

THE MILLION DOLLAR QUESTION

What is the most effective way to accomplish all my goals?

My phone can tether via usb or via wifi

I want to be able to sit in my living room and control everything via phone or remote, even if it means running an ugly usb extension cable across the floor and always having phone plugged into desktop pc.

Thanks in advance, let me know if there is anything I can add, and I hope this all makes sense.

I got the new tv last week and it has been driving me NUTS trying to figure this all out. I know it is all here and can be done but I just cant think anymore.

That should work as well. I was actually curious and did a bit more research, i was trying to find a way to connect your phone directly to a router, and have it treat the phone as a modem. I saw another guy offering $150 to any programmer who implements it into PFSense. Most of the people there were...
If your phone can be a hotspot, i'd just turn my router into a repeater! It will grab the wifi from the phone and route it out for you.

If that wasn't an option, set up your tether on the desktop, plug a router into the ethernet of your desktop. Go into Network Adapters, select both the "tether" connection, and the LAN connection, right click and select "bridge" this will allow your computer to pass your tether internet to the access point, and it can do its normal thing spreading wifi to all your devices.

With the padavan firmware, on the 2.4ghz band I have the options for: AP, WDS bridge, WDS repeater, and AP-Client + AP.

And on 5ghz same options, and AP-Client.

The hotspot will not work with WDS correct? So I don't think this router gives me that option. However I did buy a TP-Link TL-MR3040 that I havent really delved into. I think that might work as a repeater.

In this configuration does the ethernet from the PC need to go into the WAN port on the router? I have tried this however the PC was connected to a LAN port and it did not work.

Ill give it a try!

I like the repeater idea, as it gets me away from having to be wired to computer.

Also, as far as the PC to TV connection via HDMI, I would like to sit on the couch and have control over the computer while viewing it on my tv. Any ideas?

Tethered phone to PC, PC to WAN port on router, bridged connections, and it works!!! I cant believe I made it that far on my own I just didnt have the PC in the WAN port...

So, casting is up and running, although I am limited to my phone being connected to computer.

Now I am wondering if I can use the TP-Link as an ethernet bridge, and connect to it with phone wifi hotspot, and have TP-link plugged into WAN port of router.

For watching blue rays and playing games on the computer, but viewing on TV, should I set the TV to be my only and primary monitor? I would need a way other than keyboard and mouse to control computer.

Most of the people there were doing the HotSpot to Wifi, like your second idea here, and they were extremely savy network people, so i think that is probably your best option!
