Question Information about servers to receive and store data from multiple sources

My small company intends to create a national database around the country. To do so, all regions of the country are going to send their registries data (usually on excel sheet).

We want to have a single place where everybody can send this data and where is organized and stored (altogether, the amount of data is going to be small, but it's going to come from several points).

So the idea is to get a server for this, but we have no knowledge whatsoever of the kind of server we need to store data and how to protect the data from being stolen as well as having a backup of said data.

If anyone could give us some guidance or general info., we'll appreciate it. Thanks

Thanks for replying. We are located in Spain. Altogether they're going to be sending from 16 to 100 sources, depending on the final system we implement. Data will be a small excel sheet (less than 1000 registries) per source.

In this past months, they have been sending their data via email and stored in Google Drive, but we want something more secure and centralized, that's why we want to buy an small server for this task.

If you don't know how to do this, you should not be doing it on your own. There are tons of requirements for medical data for privacy and security, as well as manipulating the data. You need some real IT and medical consulting staff. You should have several people involved in this before you even think about storing and using the data, risk management, medial expert(s), IT security not including whoever actually builds your server and the connections to it.

I'm amazed that anyone is sending you data now with how this setup sounds like, I worked at several hospitals and biotech companies (In the U.S.) and there is no way that any doctor's office should be sending you any data with the way your setup is now. I'm guessing Spain has similar systems in place to protect medical and other private data as the US, and you don't seem to be meeting requirements to hand this data. Storing stuff in Google Drive in spreadsheets sent probably through non-encrypted emails? Nope nope nope.
