I recently bought a WD30EFRX, I'm not familiar with WD drives but I've read good things about their drives in general. What should I expect from this model? Is it good and reliable? I will use it in my PC that is kept on 24/7 and I very rarely reboot it.

The WD Red is more for stability vs pure speed.
It will be just fine.

How long will it last? Right up until the moment it dies.
Be proactive with your backups, and a physical drive fail is of no consequence.

It should hold well for 24/7 usage for about 5-8 years. They are generally durable drives for servers so you should have it for sometime. As for 24/7 usage, if you're using basic windows 10 home you might see slowdown eventually but don't pin that on your storage, windows lets the RAM fill up over time so it tends to slow down because of that. Simply restart it and you should be fine.

I have like 5TB of data or something like that. I'd say about 300GB of that is really important, I don't really add anything to these folders, they are basically untouched for 10+ years. Would a good SSD such as the MX500 or the 860 a good way to store that type of data?

Not really.
That is mostly a waste of a high speed drive.

And I wouldn't trust any single physical drive to last untouched for a decade. No matter what type drive.

Is there a software that can backup folders instead of whole drives? For example, I want to backup my documents folder and every time I add something to it on the D: drive, it mirrors to other drives. Is that a possibility?

FreeFileSync. it also has a RealTimeSync function.

I've stopped using that, in favor of more comprehensive backup solutions. Macrium Reflect.
