Ini Mini Miny Moe! GPU or Monitor?

Debating if I should purchase a New GPU (GTX 980) or a New 4k Monitor (ASUS PG278Q ROG Swift 27-Inch).


want to see which one you guys would go with.. only thing I have going is that 4k may drop in prices, but by then a 980 will be a year old? hmm ..


my current setup:
Corsair 750D case
i7 4790k
EVGA 770 FTW 4GB (Watercooled with a Kraken g10)
Asus Sabertooth Mark 1 z97
16gb Tridents
x2 120gb SSD Raid 0
CX750

Using a 770 at 4K really isn't going to get you much playability in the terms of FPS, I'd go with the GTX 980.
You'd be needing at least two GTX 980's to get a decent FPS at 4K on the highest settings in games (without aa)

Hopefully DX12 will improve GPU performance enough so that 4k is playable on at least the 980?

It's unlikely it would almost double the performance, especially as games will still be getting more graphically intensive, I think you'd be needing 2 980's for a decent frame rate still.

Btw, that monitor is not a 4k monitor. It is a 1440p monitor. The only problem is the 770 is kind of limited on Vram, and grunt power for the newest games, but you can turn down settings and make good use of it.

Wait for 980ti you're going to shoot yourself in the foot if it's only a little more expensive than a 980 and it's a couple months away.
