EDIT: Solved --- The card was defective (most likely the fan controller malfunctioned) i sent it back to the retailer and i'm waiting for a replacement card.

Hi

So, I have a problem, i got an inno3D GTX 1080

First off my setup is as follows:

GIGABYTE MB GB 1150 Z97X-SLI
Int Core i5-4690K
WESTERN DIGITAL HD3.5" SATA3 2TB WD20EURX / AV-GP (Di)
XFX 550W 80+ BRONZE CERTIFIED WIRE
PHANTEKS PH-TC14CS Cooler
2x KINGSTON 8GB DDR3- 1866MHZ NON-ECC CL 1
Another 2 SATA with 1TB each and an SSD with 256GB (I don't have the exact types of those)
inno3D GTX 1080 Chill x4

i installed it and tried running it with my current setup and encountered a problem, the fans are not working at all. The tiny fan on the side activated once on the first startup after i installed the card but since then all 4 fans are standing still. The card has an LED on the side indicating load (from the descriptions i've found online my guess would be that it actually indicates power load and not temperature) and it is blue all the time meaning the card is not under load. I tried to play a bit of overwatch and noticed FPS drops after about 15 minutes, a quick glance to the statistics told me that the card was running at almost 90°C so i immediatley turned off the PC and let the card cool down. After some testing i found out that none of the fans come online and the card doesn't change from blue load to the two others (under gaming it should be red).
Furthermore, manually setting the fan speed in the inno3D tool or MSi afterburner also didn't start the fans.
What I noticed as well is that when the fan speed is set to automatic it actually changes based on the cards temperature as if the fans were running.

Do you guys think that the fans not working is due to the PSU maybe not giving the card enough power? Or do you have any other suggestion? (already ordered a Corsair CP-9020092-EU RMX 750W just to be on the safe side)

Driver wise i'm running the current nvidia 390.65 drivers and did a clean install of them (deleted my old cards drivers properly etc.).

Any input would be appreciated. I'll update this as soon as i changed the PSU as well.

Here are two pictures of the LED and fans

And one of the CPUID HWMonitor

It looks like the fans should be getting power but aren't moving :< bad card?

Solution
Sounds more like a defective / unconnected fan controller on the card. Maybe something that happened while shipping than a power issue tbh.

That would be bad since i have no way of checking the card for that :/ i already waited a month for the delivery it would be really frustrating to send it back now

What i also find very weird is that when i first installed the card it actually went into the green load mode and the fan that is easily visible from the outside was spinning for quite a bit before it changed into the blue mode it sits at now an stopped spinning.

Further testing on a second rig shows the same behavior so you're probably right and the fan controller is defective, i'll talk with the retailer tomorrow :<

An update for anyone stumbling upon this in a search. Like @Isokolon suggested the card was defective. I sent it back after talking with the retailer and he told me that he'll stop selling Inno3D cards all together because he had a very high rate of defective 1080 and 1080ti cards from them, a lot of cards had problems regarding the cooling solutions in particular.

So if you think about getting an Inno3D card maybe take that into consideration. He offered me to switch over to a Gainward Phoenix GS card for no extra fees so that's what I went with instead of the Inno3D replacement.

interesting. so far I've never heard about people having a lot of problems with Inno3D and I can't recall any when the 1080 initially launched. maybe their QC really dimminished or maybe it's just a bad shipment (these things happen)

gl with your Gainward Phoenix, got a 1070 GS myself, great cards!
