Hi,

Looking for some suggestions on PC Builds. I am from the UK. I have put together the below which is the PC minus the monitors and just looking for some feedback based of the information below.

PCPartPicker Part List

CPU: AMD Ryzen 7 9800X3D 4.7 GHz 8-Core Processor (£405.30 @ Amazon UK)
CPU Cooler: ARCTIC Liquid Freezer III Pro 360 77 CFM Liquid CPU Cooler (£71.98 @ Amazon UK)
Motherboard: Asus TUF GAMING B850-PLUS WIFI ATX AM5 Motherboard (£232.48 @ Amazon UK)
Memory: Corsair Vengeance RGB 64 GB (2 x 32 GB) DDR5-6000 CL30 Memory (£234.17 @ Amazon UK)
Storage: Samsung 990 EVO Plus 2 TB M.2-2280 PCIe 5.0 X2 NVME Solid State Drive (£119.72 @ Amazon UK)
Video Card: Asus TUF GAMING OC GeForce RTX 5080 16 GB Video Card (£1324.99 @ AWD-IT)
Case: Fractal Design North XL ATX Full Tower Case (£150.94 @ CCL Computers)
Power Supply: be quiet! Straight Power 12 1000 W 80+ Platinum Certified Fully Modular ATX Power Supply (£169.95 @ AWD-IT)
Total: £2709.53

Approximate Purchase Date: This month. I'm happy to wait if it would be beneficial or new gpu/cpu releases are imminent.

Budget Range: Around £3000

System Usage from Most to Least Important:
  1. Gaming (casual such as League of Legends however AAA games such as the new Battlefield 6 will be required)
  2. Browsing
  3. Looking to start learning development (Visual Studiuo, IntelliJ) as I currently do a lot of Database/SQL work and planning a career pivot and it will be used to learn on.
Are you buying a monitor: Yes

Parts to Upgrade: N/A - Require full build. My current PC is 10 years old. i7 4930k… 256gb ssd etc…

Do you need to buy OS: No

Preferred Website(s) for Parts: Amazon, Scan, Overclockers.. Will just be getting it from the cheapest anyway.

Location: Wigan, England, UK.

Parts Preferences: No preferences.

Overclocking: Unlikely. Haven’t overclocked my current PC.

Multiple GPUs: No.

Your Monitor Resolution: Currently 1080p however I would be looking at two 1440p monitors (27”) or one 4k with current 1080p’s as side monitors. Open to suggestions.. IPS v OLED etc.

Additional Comments: Preferably a PC that will run almost silent when not under load and black themed - not looking for RBG functionality or if there is RBG then having the ability to turn it off. Do like the Fractal Design North case.

And Most Importantly, Why Are You Upgrading: Old PC… Not worth looking at upgrading.

You have quite a bit of overspending going on here. This would net you faster ram, a better board, and more storage, for a similar price.

It's up to you to decide, but I personally would buy a 9070xt over the RTX 5080. It is roughly 16% slower, at 1440p, on the release drivers. should be a bit better now though with recent drivers having it a bit faster than a 5070ti now. The problem is the cost difference is quite a bit more, for that 16%.

Some examples of 5080 and 9070xt pricing.

Video Card: MSI VENTUS 3X OC PLUS GeForce RTX 5080 16 GB Video Card (£955.47 @ Scan.co.uk)
Video Card: Gigabyte AORUS ELITE Radeon RX 9070 XT 16 GB Video Card (£664.95 @ AWD-IT)
Video Card: Sapphire PULSE Radeon RX 9070 XT 16 GB Video Card (£599.99 @ Overclockers.co.uk)

You want either a 120mm or 140mm rear exhaust fan for that case. Look at the Arctic line of fans. I threw this case in here to show you a less expensive option that includes two sound dampening side panels. I would also look for a SSD that includes DRAM cache such as the Samsung 990 Pro or this MSI SSD down below. The X870E and X670E chipset boards allows you to add a second M.2 NVME SSD later on if you so choose without sucking up all your PCIe lanes (bandwidth). 27" 1440P is ideal for games such as BF6. If you can wait another few months Nvidia will be releasing the Super cards such as the RTX 5070 Ti Super 24GB and the RTX 5080 Super 24GB.

Personally wouldn’t get the 9070XT over the 5080 due to the 5080 stomping it in RT and the better access it has to DLSS/FSR.

I im against water cooling in most cases. (thus the air cooler).
If you want to spend 640 pounds(round to 90% ) more money, for about 15% more performance, that's ofcourse your choice...obviously, i wouldn't.

"Looking to start learning development (Visual Studiuo, IntelliJ) as I currently do a lot of Database/SQL work and planning a career pivot and it will be used to learn on. " - that's why the CPU (50% more money, for 100% more cores...yes, it might be negligibly slower in gaming compared to 9800X3D, who cares)

Thanks all, that's definitely give me some more options and also super helpful to understand them motherboard options etc.

Seems like based of that article if they're dropping supers in the next 6 months it would be worth waiting as even if the price is inflated due to demand it's still probably worth the little extra for the longevity and in no major rush.

Much appreciated for your guys time.

I am still in the RT isn't worth the performance hit camp. The 5080 has the melty connector, and the 50 series drivers have been problematic at best. Though, if the OP wants RT, then this will give them a general idea of the RT performance difference.
