Hi all...

So this is likely going to seem janky.

I have dual systems in a salvaged NavePoint 15U cabinet (Davy Jones' Locker, Temple of Doom, IDK -- haven't settled on a name yet)

One is an R7 1700 / MSI B450M Bazooka combo with an EVGA FTW RTX3060ti-8GB, 4x8 HyperX Fury DDR-2133.

The other is an R9 5900X / Gigabyte B550 Aorus Master combo with an Asus Tuf RTX3090 24GB, 2x16 Patriot Viper 4 Blackout DDR4-3200.

I haven't 100% decided what's what yet, but I do plan to run both Win10 64 Pro and Mint Cinnamon 22, possibly a dual boot using an external USB M.2 enclosure on each.

The 1700's intended use is web / media / NAS to save power when not gaming, and I plan to rip / record DVDs on it. However, I've got a bit of a snag. Since transferring my Pioneer BDR-212DBK to an external USB enclosure, OBS Studio cannot detect the audio, apparently a limitation of the USB connection. Therefore, the only other solution I can think of is to use an ElGato 4K60 Pro MK.2 I have.

And therein lies the problem. With a GPU installed, the MSI B450M Bazooka board only has 2 x1s open, and the ElGato card is an x8. Research shows that low-spec GPUs can be used for gaming through x1 to x16 riser adapters with minimal impact, so I'm wondering this is acceptable for A/V capture as well. And whether this would actually manage to catch the HDMI audio in passthrough before going to the display.

What's the best way to solve this problem? I'd rather not revert the ODD to internal SATA, the whole idea of this was to keep the cabinet closed to reduce dust intake. I'd also rather not buy another board, as swapping boards would mean tearing things down (AGAIN) and it would leave me with a perfectly good board sitting around that no one else is likely to need, but I do recognize that at some point you can actually spend enough on adapters to buy a different board. A suitable board that supports first-gen Ryzen is going to be a tall order these days.

I do have a slot-powered GTX1650 I could run in this thing if it would open up any other options (saying running the GTX1650 off the x1 slot and the ElGato in the x16, which I doubt would be ideal).

TIA - this is driving me crazy.
