Insanely Low Browser Download Speeds

When I download something in Google Chrome or Mozilla Firefox, I get roughly 200kb/s, while on steam and other similar applications I get at least 6mb/s at all times. Does anyone know how I can increase my browser speeds? This was tested on many, many sites, so I know it is the not website being located in a different region.

Firefox defaults to just 15 maximum concurrent connections and Chrome to 6. The polar opposite is P2P clients such as BitTorrent which can use thousands of simultaneous connections, so you'd better have a good router. I expect most other downloading clients are somewhere in between.

With firefox you can use the addon Fasterfox

https://addons.mozilla.org/en-US/firefox/addon/rsccmanfasterfox/

to increase the amount of connections firefox can do, up to 65535.

But frankly, I can download at 10+ MB/s with firefox or chrome without it.

Something appears to be throttling http traffic since you say steam downloads just fine.

Have you tried going to www.speedtest.net to see what they say about your connection?

Yeah my speedtest was fine, with 63 up and 22 down. I also tried downloading Fasterfox, which did not make a difference

tried the new firefox quantum that out now?? has whole new engin for speed.

What exactly are you trying to download?

Depending on the site they may have speed limitations.

I just did a test on www.geforce.com/drivers to download some random driver and was at 35 megabytes a second before the driver finished downloading.

So I know they have the bandwidth to give you at least 280 megabits.

What is your speed downloading drivers from nvidia?

Doesn't matter which one you pick.
