Inspiron 8100 display issue

I have an Inspiron 8100 which I purchased new about 2.5 years ago. It has
always worked well, but I noticed today that there was a line vertical going
from the top of the screen to the bottom. It's not all that noticeable
except when the background is certain colors. Is this the same thing as dead
pixels? The laptop has seen very little use and still looks brand new. It is
not under warranty. Will it get worse, go away, etc?

My Inspiron 8000 has exactly the same problem,been using it 14 hrs a day for
7 months and its never got worse.
