I need to perform a complete system reset according to two different Microsoft techs due a problem that bluescreens the system if an administrator account signs in. I have backed up all data on an external drive. Once this is done, I would like to install a 250GB Samsung 850 EVO. The SSD will be only for the OS (Windows 10).
Looking for any concerns or tips. I found a tutorial on TH on transferring OS to an SSD but it wasn't that clear. Any place I can go for a complete step by step process to transfer the OS to the SSD once I do the reset. Should I reinstall programs before transferring OS to the SSD?
Thanks,

by "system reset" do they mean reformat and reinstall windows? If so, the programs won't be there and will have to be reinstalled anyway. You can typically install windows 10 to an SSD just like you would to a hard drive with no noticeable differences except possibly the speed of the reinstall.

Yes, they mean reformat and reinstall windows. I know everything will be gone. I would like to do the reinstall directly to the SSD if possible. Is it and if so how? I did hookup the SSD but the computer is not recognizing it but I didn't trouble shoot because I knew I needed to do a wipe and reinstall and thought I should just do that first and start from scratch.

So when you are trying to install Windows 10, you do not see the SSD listed as one of the available disks in the partitioning screen? Or is the SSD not showing up in the bios after you connect it to the power and data cables?

I hooked up the SSD about a week ago. I could not see the SSD as one of the discs in the partitioning screen. I have not done the reset yet. I am trying to figure out what I need to do to be able to direct install on the SSD during the reset/reinstall. If not easy then should I just disconnect the SSD, do the reset, reconnect the SSD and then migrate the OS?
Sorry but I know just enough to get myself in trouble and then to ask for help to get out.

Are you able to see the SSD in Disk Manager if you sign in on the machine with a non-admin account(actually I don't remember if you can even access Disk Management(under Computer Management in administrative tools from the control panel on win7) without an admin account)

Typically, as I said, it should show up as one of the disks when you are installing during the formatting/partitioning stage of the Win10 install. If it isn't now, then reformatting isn't going to change that so we should probably check that first.

I was able to log on as an administrator in safe mode and it hasn't blue screened yet. I found it in the disk management window. It says not initialized and wants me to initialize it but gives two options MRB or GPT. Which should I use and if it initializes, then can I do the reset and then select the SSD as the drive to reinstall the OS?

If I initialize as GPT, can I boot if my computer is not UEFI? How do I find out if it is UEFI?
Edit - My computer is running UEFI firmware and not Legacy BIOS.
