I have Gigabyte GA-B75M-D3H mobo. I was skeptical that my Graphic Card is creating some issues, so I thought of reinstalling windows from scratch.

I know that my mobo support UEFI bios, so I used Rufus to create Bootable OS usb with "MBR Partition scheme for UEFI". It created successfully.

I rebooted and booted into usb and went ahead to license and all and there I got the message that "The selected disk has an MBR partition table. On EFI systems, Windows can only be installed to GPT disks".

So can anyone tell me, what the heck is actually UEFI. Why there is so much trouble in doing these things. Moreover, Ive formatted the C partition of my HDD, and now it have UEFI as prefix when selecting boot order.!

If my HDD is already partitioned as MBR and if I've selected MBR Partition scheme for UEFI", then why didn't it let me install the windows? Why such errors about GPT. Can Windows be install in EFI mode only on GPT table and not on MBR?

UEFI windows requires installation on a GPT partition.

When you boot through your BIOS boot menu make sure you select the USB drive as UEFI USB boot.

@Rogue Leader, according to what u've posted the links given above and to my understanding, UEFI mode always work with GPT. When the drive itself is not according to UEFI, the installation won't work and needs a complete reformat of the whole hdd to draw itself GPT partition table.

But if its known that UEFI only works with GPT table, then why there's option in Rufus for MBR Partition scheme for UEFI? Is it false or gimmicky? Or there is still under the hood left which em not getting.!

Btw, is it okay to create HDD less than 2 TB as GPT partition table?
What bout my existing MBR portioned hdd, which now shows UEFI label adjacent to it's name in Boot menu and boot priorities menu?

I'm confused by how many steps you are taking, you have made this far more complicated than it needs to be.

Do you have another PC? if so take your USB drive and download Windows Media Creation tool and use it to create a bootable USB to install win 10. Forget rufus.

https://www.microsoft.com/en-us/software-download/windows10/

Then from your BIOS in the boot select menu select UEFI USB boot. and boot from the USB. Delete any and all partitioning on the drive from inside windows setup.

Then follow the instructions I linked in my last post for manually setting your hard drive up as a GPT, the size of the drive doesn't matter but of course I'd recommend using the whole thing. Do no try to mix GPT and MBR partitions, let windows build its structure on the drive.

This will work i've installed Win 10 multiple times this way.

@Calvin7, I don't know if u're familiar with Rufus or not, but I think u r near to my point of view. When I try to create a Bootable OS usb stick, its always in a legacy mode, but this time I made it with MBR partition scheme with UEFI, and I got two entries for my usb stick, one is labeled as UEFI and other one as simple. But the non-uefi doesn't have any OS in it, and the UEFI won't install (which I know why this happens)!

So, what if I don't see any option for UEFI mode in Boot menu when installing windows and there is only legacy mode for it.? @Rogue Leader?

I have used the windows media creation tool all the time for my windowes 10 installs and always was able to install it in UEFI mode. the only issue i had was the UEFI wouldn't show up in he boot menu for me if too many USB devices were connected

Your motherboard definitely has UEFI, and the USB drive will work as a UEFI boot, there is no MBR or GPT partitioning when it comes to a USB drive. In the BIOS if you go to "Save and Exit" there is a "Boot Override" option, pick UEFI USB or however they word it. That is the ONLY way this will work.

that is right. in my case when i wasn't getting the UEFI option in the boot menu i found i had to disconnect my USB hub for the option to show up.

@Rogue Leader, I'll get the screen shot of "Bios Feature" section of my motherboard. They r plenty of feature to which em not aware of. So I think mayb u can help then in selecting the right one!
Thanks for ur cooperation.

I checked your motherboard manual already, choose "Save and Exit" and then in yellow you will see "Boot Override", select that and in that menu you should then be able to select UEFI USB.
