Hello -

I just upgraded to an nvme ssd (Samsung 960 evo) and now my gpu is not running at its full speed - it’s not being fullly utilized.

Is it because of a lack of pcie lanes?
I thought a 7600k had more than 16.

Specs:
i5-7600k
Gtx 1060 6gb
Samsung 969 evo
Asus Strix z270e

Thanks,
LC

Update: the ssd was either defective or an issue that I would have to update my UEFI to fix and I didn’t want to risk bricking my mobo. Amazon took my return and I wound up getting a 500gb 850 evo :)

Glad you got it figured out, though very odd situation. It does seem that the SSD wasn't performing correctly in your situation, but you resolved the issue with an 850 EVO. I guess bad ones will slip through on occasion. My only guess here is your games were performing slow due to the SSD having trouble reading the data off of them, or reading it slower than it should causing FPS slowdowns from the wait.

The 850 is coming on Wednesday. I I hope I won’t run into any issues with the SATA drive - I’ll check in once it comes.

Thank you for your help!

Update: just installed my 850 and everything works great. But here’s the thing: The other drive may not have been defective.

When I have Nzxt’s can fps overlay enabled it drops my framerate to the same levels as the nvme 😛

That actually might have been the problem all along - whoops
