Hello, my question is I wast to install Windows XP on a separate HDD, I have the install disk and cd key. I want to use this to run old games, etc. I've had problems with compatibility mode in the past, and Virtual machine looks to confusing. I figured just having the original os would work just fine. And help/advice would be appreciated. Thank you.

Solution
Windows install will try to put some small hidden recovery partitions on another drive if it can find one.
That makes it all but impossible to run without that drive present.
Does it really need to be XP?
If so, I don't see why not.
Install XP on your drive with no other drives attached.
You can use the bios boot option to select which os you want to run.
I do this on a laptop with a 32 bit os to run civ 2.42 on one drive or windows 10 on the other.
