installed 8 more gigs of ram, (16 total) only 4 usable.

I have been running the 8gb that came with my prebuild for some time now, and even then it only said 4gb was usable. My ram came in today, only when installed too say the same amount is usable yet saying 16gb is installed. I have an rx480 8gb, and im running windows 10 64bit. Any reason why this is happening? (Plese dumb down a few things, ive only ever built a single pc. Kinda undercultured)

something is very wrong with your hardware then. a 64 bit os can access over 4GB

My motherboard is a m5A97 R2.0, and the memory is patriot ddr3, 16 gigs.

What is the exact model of the memory (from the label on the memory or captured with an app like CPU-Z)?

Also, if only one stick of memory is installed, does it read 4GB properly? Does moving a single stick of memory from slot to slot result in the system seeing 4GB each time?

This could be a case of only one memory slot working. Bent CPU pins can cause issues like this.
